It takes a village to stop human trafficking.
There isn't a single agency in Alberta that offers every element of care that a victim of trafficking needs. ACT Alberta’s It Takes a Village program addresses this gap by fostering cross-agency partnerships and facilitating knowledge sharing to contribute to the solution.
Trafficking is a highly complex crime that presents unique challenges for victims. Effective responses require coordinated services, systemic changes, and strong partnerships. As the one of the first anti-trafficking agencies in Alberta, ACT is uniquely positioned to lead and support these efforts and build collaborations that benefit all involved.
It Takes a Village
It Takes a Village (ITAV) develops a community-based approach to tackling trafficking by enhancing partnerships, improving communication, and sharing resources and knowledge. This program supports ACT’s First Defense and Pathways to Safety initiatives by fostering formal collaborations that enhance service delivery and evidence-based practices.
Connecting the Dots
By leveraging collective action, ITAV has exponentially more impact on the lives of victims of human trafficking, building their path away from isolation and exploitation.
ITAV Partners Include:
Survivors of human trafficking
Government agencies
Organizations and non-profits providing front-line services
Advocacy groups
Lobbyists and policy experts
Academics
Lowering Barriers, Expanding Reach
Through ITAV, we’re also able to refer clients who may fit the criteria as human trafficking victims, to partner organizations, such as domestic violence or sexual exploitation victim support organizations. ITAV takes on the administrative burden of these partnerships to reduce barriers to access for external partners. This relationship-building program leverages cross-agency collaboration for equity-based change.
